BACKGROUND: Canon's Wiki Entry | Original History

PERSONALITY:

"Radiance to the sky. Blessings to the earth. Happiness to my people."

As the last Queen of France whose death set the pillars for the French Revolution, Marie Antoinette had been blamed and defiled by history books as the selfish, greedy, manipulative woman who hated the plebe underneath her and had nearly led the reign to ruin alongside the royal family, and whose execution was celebrated as the start of a new era. Yet, as she had been chosen by the Holy Grail to serve as a heroic spirit, despite her mistakes in life, Marie's true character came to light. In fact, her kindness was far greater than it was narrated, she had helped the poor whenever she could, she had been loving her people all along, and that love lasted even beyond their betrayal. Extremely forgiving, she bears no grudge against them; in fact, the quote above sums up what she would ever wish from the Holy Grail - a selfless plea for the wellness of everyone besides herself.

She had been born into the world with the purpose to carry out an image - a kind figure who felt fondness for humans and was cared for in return, in a way that might be reminescent of a goddess. Hence her appearance as a Servant is that of an idol, and she shares the characteristics of one, such as her soothing voice, bubbly charm, unconditional affection towards everyone around her, and nigh indestructible optimism. Even in the face of sadness or tragedy, or while she's loathed or insulted, Marie keeps a smile on her face, stubbornly believing that there is always a way out of a bad situation, or that every individual, even the most heinous, has a good heart within their depths. Unfortunately this belief also results in her being quite naive and diving into troublesome events that could have been avoided if she stopped and looked at a situation more critically.

Marie is also upfront about the things she wants, and honest to a fault, speaking her mind even if her words may sound unpleasant, made worse by the fact she will constantly use a gentle voice while smiling, therefore coming off as patronizing and smug. Even if it's never her intention to displease anyone, the fact she feels free to do what she wants as a former Queen is also true. There are times where she fearlessly steps into areas she shouldn't be in, whether it's because she wants to learn or just for kicks, carrying on the confident aura of a noble while expecting to be given the pass. It's a flaw that is hard to get rid of. Even so, she's reasonable and accepting of defeat when she's denied something.

Fashion and aesthetic are extremely important to her. She loves hot baths, fancy dresses, expensive jewels, music, dance parties, and other things that let her recall the glorious times as a member of the French royalty. The oversized hat she displays in her normal outfit also represents the crown she still has a hard time getting rid of. In fact, Marie is almost never seen with her head bare, needing even silly objects like a live crab to cover her up. Carrying on some other bad habits she had in life, she's also a massive spendthrift who wounds up shopping constantly and wasting money on things she may not even need; she herself doesn't understand how she came to have such a trait, although she eventually doesn't restrain those urges to buy more and more.

Deep in her heart, while her love and happiness are much stronger and she fully acknowledged the atrocities her royal family, including herself, had committed, there lie shadows of resentment tied to the betrayal of her country. Hatred, anger, despair, tied together and forming a dark Marie that appeared in her dreams and haunted her constantly, calling her foolish for granting forgiveness to her killers and maintaining a smile to those who don't deserve it. Marie painfully knows such darkness is also part of her, the side that refuses to forget what she had suffered through by the hand of the same people she loved so much. However, it's much easier to smile, laugh, shout "Vive la France!" out loud, and spread love all around instead of steaming in her own bitterness. She's the Marie who never gave into the call for vengeance, and she's determined to keep doing her thing for as much as she's allowed to exist.

POWERS/ABILITIES:

Marie is a Servant, a heroic spirit formed upon her death, who is summoned as a familiar by any human Master she's fated to serve and protect during a Holy Grail War. In the canon proper, she, along with several other Servants, are tasked to fight alongside each other under one single Master throughout many of the singularities they travel in during the game. Her strength and stamina are mildly superior to that of a regular human's, and unlike them she doesn't have basic necessities like food and sleep, only requiring those to recharge her mana.

The class Marie is under is Rider, which has its own strengths and weaknesses. In the game, she's stronger against Casters and weaker against Assassins. Her regular attack is a sparkling beam "commanded forth" by the power of her singing voice only, input by her speaking to the rose-shaped ring on her finger like it's a microphone.

Servant Stats

  • Strength: D
  • Endurance: D
  • Agility: B
  • Mana: B
  • Luck: B+
  • Noble Phantasm: A+

Passive Skills

Riding (A+)
The basic skill of all Riders. Marie's rank is high and therefore she can ride pretty much anything, from beasts to vehicles, without fail. The only exceptions to this are Dragon kinds, which she can't tame.

Magic Resistance (C)
Riders are also known for their natural defense against magic attacks, but in Marie's case it's only limited to basic magecraft and anything stronger than that will impact her.

Active Skills

Alluring Nightingale (C)
Marie's charm is weaponized as a means to make her opponents lose all will to attack her. It's a low rank skill, however, so people with a strong enough will to resist her are capable of immunity.

Princess Of Loveliness (A)
This skill gives Marie an invincibility barrier for three hits, and heals her a bit for five turns. Her charm plays a role again, as she can physically summon any knightly kind of person to the field who will shield her from harm. Since the rank is high, people will be induced to protect her for the sole fact she exists. It's not a skill she seeks to use often, because it basically brainwashes people into helping her.

Grace Of God (B)
Glorifying her beauty as a monarch, Marie uses this skill to heal herself and enhance her resistance to status ailments for a brief time.

Noble Phantasms

Guillotine Breaker: Glory to the Crown of Lilies (A)
The white horse is a symbol of the french royal family and its glory. As such, Marie can summon it to the field, in the form of a creature made solely of glass, by revealing its True name with her firm voice. She will ride it straight through an enemy army, leaving crystals in its wake which will trap her opponents and shatter, causing them damage. The effects can be spread to at least 50 people. It also heals her party and clears them from status ailments.

Crystal Palace: The Lovable Radiance for All Eternity (B)
A Barrier type that serves to show the grandiosity of the French monarchy, and protects her party in addition of improving their stats. It takes the form of a large, beautiful palace which shape Marie took inspiration straight from the actual Crystal Palace that resides in London, proving that her love is boundless and is not just limited to her country.

INVENTORY: Summer dress, fancy sandals, straw hat, and beach ball

MOONBLESSING: Iris. Jellyfish Queen go!
